Event Report

We had an interview with Jay Leno, an EV Car Parade that was kicked off by Jim Marpe, First Selectman of Westport at the Westport Train Station, led by the three EV Westport police cars into Fairfield and met by Selectwoman Nancy Lefkowitz and winner of our online context Michael Terranova, who arrived on his amped up EV scooter at the Fairfield Old Town Hall as well as a week of online lunch and learn webinars all recorded and stored on YouTube and available via our SustainableFairfield.org website.

Event Description

Now in its sixth year, the “Green Wheels Expo” sponsored by Fairfield, CT's Sustainable Fairfield Task Force, has emerged as one of the New England region’s most distinctive EV exhibitions and is firmly within the top ranks of exhibitions nationally in terms of number of vehicles on display.  The 2020 event will kick off on September 26 and run through October 2 in a feature-packed online format providing viewers a host of opportunities, safely accessible right from home, to sample the many appealing models of electric vehicles (EVs) transforming how we travel.

The hub of this year’s online Expo can be found at SustainableFairfield.org, featuring EV webinars from Monday, Sept. 28 to Friday, Oct. 2, daily at 1 pm, plus a showcase of new EV models, informational articles and videos, and testimonials from EV owners. Comedian and former Tonight Show host Jay Leno (now seen talking cars on CNBC's Jay Leno's Garage) will make a special guest appearance on the site, in an extended Zoom conversation about EVs with Fairfield-based automotive writer and SFTF member Jim Motavalli.  The sole live activity will be an EV parade to take place Sunday, Sept. 27 starting at 10am at the Westport Train Station traversing up to the Post Road to the Fairfield Town Hall - come join the fun in person or online at @SustainableFairfieldTaskForce on Facebook and @SustainableFairfield on Insta.

Residents who want to share their EV love online can participate in a special Expo giveaway, offering prizes – including a Tesla test drive – for the most thoughtful, creative statement on EVs. To enter, submit a picture or a short one-minute video on Why You Think EVs Are Important and Why You Would Want One, via email to sustainablefairfieldtaskforce@gmail.com, or by using the #GWE2020EV hashtag on Instagram (public accounts only).  A winner will be chosen and announced on Friday, Oct. 2.

Last year's event attracted some 500 attendees who viewed 56 EVs, the most exhibited at any Connecticut event by far.  We had over 15 models from various manufacturers.  We look forward to once again having our in-person event in 2021 and seeing you there!
