Event Report

For its second year, the local National Drive Electric Week was held at the Channel Islands Harbor. The weather cooperated and soon after the event started, the sun came out and warmed the cool ocean breeze. Throughout the day, several hundred potential EV adopters came to the site to learn more about how electric vehicles had evolved and today are a viable transportation option.

On display were 18 different models represented by 42 vehicles each with their knowledgeable owners. A lot of networking and Q&A went on and everyone was happy they participated. A County air quality official attended sharing information about incentives available to prospective EV purchasers.

In conjunction to the NDEW Oxnard event, the Best.Drive.EVer ride and drive allowed interested participants to get behind the wheel of four EV/PHEVs that were made available for ride and drive experiences.

Event Description

Join us at the Oxnard National Drive Electric Week Electric Vehicle Showcase

Sunday, September 10th. 9:00am to 3:00pm at Channel Islands Harbor.

3610 South Harbor Blvd, West Channel Park, between Cabezone Circle and Barracuda Way, just south of the Farmers Market.

If you are interested in electric vehicles and would like to learn more about the EVs, plan to visit and check the variety of electric vehicles that will be on display.  Talk to EV owners and take a test drive in the latest models that are now available at you local dealers.

If you are an EV owner - register and bring your car to the event (click the blue register button at the top of this page and you'll be entered to win a chance at a $250 gift card). Share your real life experience about driving an EV with others in your community and network with your fellow EV drivers. This is an opportunity for us to come together to make connections and influence change. Vehicles on display by their owners will be current models and included among them are some vintage cars, neighborhood vehicles, bikes and even watercraft.

The Best.Drive.EVer test-drive event is presented by Community Environmental Council with grant funding generously provided by the Plug-in Electric Vehicle Collaborative. Local EV dealers will also have the latest models on display and available for a ride and drive. Get behind the wheel and experience driving an EV.

At 11:00am, gather with us for a workshop on incentives that are currently available to new EV buyers, including the Federal EV tax credit, clean vehicle rebates from the State of California, and local incentives from Southern California Edison and the Ventura County Air Pollution Control District. The workshop will also highlight the financial and environmental advantages of driving an EV, so plan to attend!

This National Drive Electric Week event is presented by Plug In America, the Sierra Club and the Electric Auto Association. Local sponsors include the Los Padres Chapter Sierra Club, the Community Environmental Council and the Sustainability Council of Ventura County. On the ground support and organization is being provided by the EV Advocates of Ventura County.

California Plug-In Electric Vehicle Collaborative is the lead sponsor of the Best.Drive.EVer.

Volunteers are needed to help spread the word, distribute flyers before and during the day of the event, setup and to have a good time mingling with EV drivers. Sign up using the volunteer button at the top of this page.
