Event Report

Whangarei growers market is very popular attracting over 5,000 people each Saturday, a great spot for EV exposure. Afternoons with EVs at some of Whangarei's stunning beach towns Tutukaka, Waipu, Mangawhai and Paihia proved popular.

Also great support from Northpower, our community-owned electric company, Charge.net.nz and Blue Cars NZ Electric Car Rental company. https://bluecars.nz/?v=d76c77a873e2

Event Description

The event will kick off at the Whangarei Growers Market on 10 September 07:00 - 10:00, with demo and test drives. After the market we will split up the team, taking the Electric Car experience to the outlying towns of Dargaville, Kaiwaka, Mangawhai, Kawakawa and Paihia; showcasing our fantastic coastline and stunning beaches, great surfing, diving, kite-surfing, sailing, and fishing.

Two Electric Cars will be on display in Whangarei Council's Forum North foyer during the week of 10 -17 September with storyboards explaining the benefits of EV's in New Zealand with our 80% renewable electricity.

We will participate in the Centennial Celebration of the Wairua hydro-electric power station. This 5 MW run-of-the-river hydro power station was commissioned in 1916 and has generated enough electricity to drive an EV to the moon every day for the last 100 years; and will continue to do so for the next 100 years ... a great example of renewable, sustainable transport fuel.

A presentation will be given at the Northland Regional Council, 17:30 Wednesday 14 September 2016.

Finally, there will be demo and test drives again at Whangarei Growers Market on 17 Sept. 07:00 - 10:00

This event is sponsored by The Better NZ Trust in conjuction with Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) to promote International Drive Electric Week in New Zealand
EECA promotes energy efficiency, energy conservation and the use of energy from renewable sources. Their role is to make sure we make the most of our resources, hence the name - Te Tari Tiaki Pūngao, The Office That Guards The Energy.
